California, USA Joint Efforts to Promote Worldwide Freedom of Belief at Freedom of Religion Seminar

In spite of the fact that freedom of religion is a universal value, there are people in some countries and regions who not only lack this freedom and right, but even continue to suffer from persecution as well as unjust prosecution or imprisonment. February 15, 2018, a seminar with the theme of “Religious Liberty as a Global Problem” was convened at the University Club of the University of Southern California. The purpose of this event was to further mutual understanding between different religious groups and jointly promote freedom of religion. In attendance were well-known religion experts, religious studies professors, as well as delegates of various religious groups from countries such as the USA, Italy, France, and Mexico, totaling over 20 participants. Christians from  The Church of Almighty God  were also invited to participate.

From January 18 to 19, 2018, the first large-scale conference on law and human rights was ushered in Florence, Italy. This conference was organized by the European Federation for Freedom of Belief (FOB) on the theme of "Law and Freedom of Belief in Europe, a Difficult Journey." The conference explored how to effectively protect the right to freedom of belief and religion for immigrants and refugees in Europe by legal means, with the aim to create a social environment where people can live in peace and mutual understanding. Famous human rights experts, religious scholars, jurists and lawyers from European countries including Italy, France, Denmark and England attended the conference and Christians from The Church of Almighty God in Italy were also invited to attend. During the conference, The Church of Almighty God became a focus of attention.

Los Angeles North Hollywood KaPow Intergalactic Film Festival: Musical Xiaozhen’s Story Wins Award

Los Angeles North Hollywood KaPow Intergalactic Film Festival: Musical Xiaozhen’s Story Wins Award

Xiaozhen’s Story, a musical by The Church of Almighty God, has been the object of much attention and praise since its 2015 release, winning multiple awards at international film festivals. In October 2017, the film received nine awards at the Virginia Christian Film Festival, including best director, best feature film, and best musical score. Xiaozhen’s Story once again stood out at the US KaPow Intergalactic Film Festival, winning the award for the best foreign experimental feature. This is the eighth time this film has received an award at an international film festival.

The full human rights documentary produced by The Church of Almighty God, Chronicles of Religious Persecution in China, stood out from the crowd among a number of the films shown, winning the silver medal. This documentary, a true account of the Chinese Communist government’s wanton violations of human rights and brutal murders of Christians, provides international society with a deeper understanding of the inside story of the Chinese government’s oppression of religious faith, offering detailed and powerful evidence. The film has received widespread attention and praise since its release.

On November 20–21, 2017, in just two days, seventeen reports attacking The Church of Almighty God (CAG) were published intensively on Ta Kung Pao and Wen Wei Po, the mouthpiece media of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in Hong Kong (HK), citing the rumors and fallacies consistently fabricated by the CCP to discredit and condemn the CAG. The reports also described at length the development of the CAG in South Korea. They claimed that the CAG had been condemned as a “cult” in Korea, and that the Korean government should not grant refugee status to Christians of the CAG. Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), makes comment on this.

The reports, by quoting a few pastors’ personal comments, denied the Christian identity of the members of the CAG, and accused them of “stealing sheep,” which caused the loss of believers of other religious groups. Upon this, Prof. Massimo Introvigne, an Italian sociologist, the founder and managing director of the Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR), makes comments as follows.
